This Privacy Policy explains how MatchMode collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects your personal data when you use our application and related services.
1. Who we are
MatchMode is a proprietary service operated by Kishan Raj Venkat, a sole proprietor registered under MSME (Udyam) in India. For the purposes of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act"), Kishan Raj Venkat is the Data Fiduciary.

2. Data we collect
We collect only the data needed to operate the platform.
2.1 Provided by you at signup
- Mobile number — used as your primary identity and to send OTP via WhatsApp.
- Full name, date of birth, gender, primary city, pincode — used to determine tournament eligibility (age brackets, gender categories) and to surface relevant tournaments near you.
- Profile photo — optional, displayed on your athlete profile and feed.
- Sport and self-declared skill level — used for tournament discovery.
2.2 Generated by your activity on MatchMode
- Tournament registrations and results — matches played, scores, outcomes.
- Ratings and rankings — calculated from verified tournament results.
- Social activity — follows, achievements, profile views.
- Payment evidence — UPI screenshots uploaded for tournament registration; we do not store UPI handles or bank details.
2.3 Collected automatically
- Device and session data — browser type, IP address, session timestamps.
- Approximate location — only if you explicitly tap "Auto-detect" for city selection. We never track location in the background.
- Analytics events — basic usage events (signup completed, tournament viewed) for product improvement.
3. Purposes for which we use your data
- Verify your identity and prevent duplicate accounts
- Determine your eligibility for tournament categories (age, gender, city)
- Calculate your competitive rating and ranking from verified results
- Display your profile, achievements, and history to other players in line with the social features you have opted into
- Send tournament-related notifications via WhatsApp (only if you have provided consent at signup)
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service
- Comply with applicable legal obligations
4. Who we share your data with
We share data only with the third parties strictly necessary to operate the service. We do not sell your personal data to advertisers.
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Data is stored in Supabase's infrastructure, which may include servers located outside India.
- Meta Platforms (WhatsApp Business) — receives your mobile number when we send you an OTP or notification via WhatsApp.
- Vercel — hosts the MatchMode web frontend.
- Tournament organizers — receive your name, registration details, and payment evidence when you register for their tournament.
- Other players — see your name, profile photo, city, ratings, rankings, and tournament history through the in-app feed and leaderboard.
- Government or law enforcement authorities — if required by Indian law or a valid legal request.
5. Cross-border data transfer
Some of our service providers (notably Supabase) may store data in jurisdictions outside India. We rely on contractual safeguards offered by these providers and on the framework permitted by the DPDP Act for such transfers.
6. How long we keep your data
We retain your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal profile within 30 days. Certain data may be retained longer where law requires (e.g. financial records, fraud investigation) or where it has been anonymized and is no longer linkable to you (e.g. aggregate tournament statistics).
7. Your rights under the DPDP Act
As a Data Principal, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct or update inaccurate personal data
- Erase your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Withdraw consent for processing where processing is based on your consent
- Nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity
- Lodge a grievance with us, and escalate to the Data Protection Board of India if unresolved
To exercise any of these rights, write to admin@matchmode.in. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Children
MatchMode is intended for users aged 15 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 15. If we learn that we have collected such data without parental consent, we will delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including encrypted database connections, hashed authentication tokens, and access controls on internal systems. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong password for your phone and keep your device protected.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Continued use of MatchMode after a change constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
